POSCO has six hot rolling plants and one high mill plant in Pohang and Gwangyang that produce 9.8 million tons of hot rolled products each year, garnering a global reach. Hot rolled products are used extensively for various applications including machines, architectural structures, car structures, general/API steel pipes and cold rolling.

POSCO uses a computerized automatic control over its entire process to produce high-quality steel plate. This allows us to ensure accuracy as well as full customization to meet customer needs. Our steel plates are extensively used for members for welded structures. Their common applications include shipbuilding, construction and heavy machines, offshore structures and wind farms, pressure vessels (storage tanks) and line pipes (carrying oil). Key features required include chemical composition, material, dimensions, form, surface and internal quality, and additional requirements depending on the application include weldability, workability, heat resistance and anti-corrosion.

POSCO uses a state-of-the-art facility and technology to produce wire rods. We use a fully computerized automatic system to deliver products of various dimensions. Wire rods are used for wide applications ranging from motor vehicles to construction, bridges and even basic research efforts.

We operate two plants in Pohang and four in Gwangyang to produce cold rolled steel. Cold rolled steel’s applications range from home appliances including motor vehicles, washing machines and fridges to industrial and architectural uses. In addition, as new applications for this steel emerge, including steel cans and steel houses, we focus on delivering products of greater added value and expanding their applications.

We deliver a wide range of galvanized steel products according to customer needs in terms of plating, quantity, lubrication and post-treatment. With good resistance to corrosion, formability, weldability, paintability and other useful features, galvanized steel is increasingly used in many areas including civil engineering, architecture and automotives.

POSCO’s electrical galvanized steel has a beautiful surface and the amount of plating that should be attached to the surface is easily controlled. This allows the steel to go through various post-treatments according to customer needs, including anti-fingerprint treatment, phosphate treatment and black resin treatment. With good paintability, good resistance to corrosion, weldability and workability, it is extensively used in automotives and home appliances.

POSCO operates an integrated production system that ranges from steel making to hot rolling and cold rolling, producing two million tons of stainless steel products every year. Stainless steel products can be classified into austenitic stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel and martensitic stainless steel according to their alloy components and tissue structure. Their typical applications include car exhaust pipes, kitchen appliances, electronics and construction materials. Emerging applications include eco-friendly sectors, such as EV battery cases and LNG.

POSCO produces over 1 million tons of electrical steel sheets every year. The non-grain oriented electrical steel has a different, non-uniform crystal orientation. Its main applications include products containing rotating parts, such as motors and generators. Grain oriented electrical steel has a uniform crystal orientation, featuring a much higher magnetic performance. Its main applications include products that have a stationary phase, such as transformers. Demand for electrical steel is increasing as the need for clean energy sources is rising to save energy and prevent environmental pollution.

A vehicle consists of the body where people and cargo are carried and the chassis where devices required for the vehicle to drive. Our steel intended for vehicles provides different properties in terms of hardness, workability, weldability, corrosion resistance, formability, paintability and linearity, depending on where it is used in the vehicle. With recently ever-tightening environmental regulations, electric vehicles (EVs) and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles (HFCVs) are emerging as alternatives to internal combustion engine vehicles. EVs are motor and battery of performance is essential, and hydrogen fuel the performance of hydrogen fuel cell is important. With excellent hardness, workability, weldability, corrosion resistance, formability, paintability and distincness of image gloss, POSCO's automotive steel is supplied only with quality products through a thorough quality certification process.
